The area is home to the largest selection of succulents on earth, while the largest San Rock art site in the Karoo can be visited at Nelspoort.
A legacy of the indigenous Khoi-San people is the wonderfully intriguing rock art that is found inside caves and caverns and on rock formations.
The Central Karoo has a magic that cannot be described, but has to be experienced. It is a place of quiet repose, of replenishment and of inner peace. It is a place that has inspired poets, artists, authors and photographers throughout the centuries.

- The Karoo National Park is home to the endangered black rhinoceros, quagga and riverine rabbit.
- Wildlife, fossils, wine route and a wide variety of eco- and adventure activities.
- Game viewing - including springbok, klipspringer, kudu, eland and other buck as well as hyrax, Hartman’s mountain zebra, bat eared fox, fallow deer, ostrich and lynx.
- Archaeological sites – particularly near Beaufort West and Nelspoort where stone-age sites and Bushmen engravings have been found.
